Preparation

Dr. Sherman will provide you with thorough instructions on how to prepare for your Mommy Makeover, depending on what procedures you will receive. A general set of guidelines for all patients includes:

  • Fast as instructed before your surgery.
  • Stop taking blood thinners and certain herbal supplements like Vitamin E two weeks before your surgery. 
  • Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for at least the first 24 hours after your surgery.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle by not smoking. 
  • Complete breastfeeding at least three months before surgery.

Procedure

The process usually takes about 4-5 hours and is done under general anesthesia.  

Recovery

Your recovery time and instructions will depend on the procedures included in your Mommy Makeover, but most patients should expect a 2-4 week recovery period. It is important to note that despite the light-hearted name, this is major cosmetic surgery, and patients need to plan for recovery time and receive help at home as they recover. You may be prescribed pain medication to minimize discomfort during your immediate recovery. In addition, getting plenty of rest, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and some light walking will be part of your recovery plan. You will also be unable to lift anything (including children) as you recover. Dr. Sherman will also provide detailed directions to guide you during your recovery, and you’ll return for regularly scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor your progress as you heal.

FAQ

Can a Mommy Makeover remove stretch marks? 

If the loose skin removed during a Tummy Tuck or Breast Lift includes stretch marks, patients can look forward to eliminated stretchmarks in the treated area. However, those with stretchmarks elsewhere may need additional treatments in order to remove them.

I am unsure if I want to have more children. Can I still get a Mommy Makeover?

If more children may be in your future, you will want to wait until you are done with childbearing. Any benefits you experience from a Mommy Makeover could be reversed or negated with future pregnancies.

Is there a limit to how many procedures I can have done at once?

Your surgeon will provide expert advice and guidance on your options. In some instances where patients require more intensive surgery, a second session may be necessary to meet all of their needs.
